Strengths:7 min to setup; It has 2 levels of security that I setup; The connection speed is FAST 54.0 as promised on the box. My lan is connecting at 100MBPS

Summary:I did a lot of research. I bought this because of the limited lifetime warranty. I had a 3 yr old netgear with 802.11b technology--It became unreliable and the connectivity speed was horrid--30 seconds with a DSL. In contrast, the Belkin connections in 1 second no exaggeration. I have the yahoo DSL. My home connection is faster than my T1 at work. This product works very well I have had it 1 day. So far so good. I\'m extremely pleased

Strengths:Easy initial setup

Summary:I had this setup and running in about 10 minutes and intially had good signal strength with my laptop. After a week the signal strength dropped off, even when only 25 feet away. After two weeks, my desktop wouldn\'t work whenever the laptop was on. In the third week, nothing was able to work when hooked up to the router. Spent three hours on the phone with support and they couldn\'t get it to work.

Strengths:Small size doesn\'t take up much space in landfill when disposed of.

Weaknesses:Short range, wall wort is hot, firmware updates don\'t work automactilly, buy Linksys, D-link, or SMC ALL ARE BETTER !

Summary:First one lasted only one month, wired ports stopped working. Returned for exchange (Circut City wouldn\'t refund money). Second one almost lasted a year, first started droping connection on and off, then after 4 days went dead (power light only) Cycled power, did reset button in back, all lights come on but, no one is home. Bought a Linksys WRT54G, life is great, better range, faster surfing, eaier setup, can install other antenna\'s (two on Linksys, box for Belkin shows two anntennas but you only get one that isn\'t replacable or removable) plus Linksys Linus open source firmare so it\'s firmware in the open. You can upgrade the Linksys router to bussiness class and features.

Summary:OK I\'m not a network engineer or anything I am just a tier 3 Helpdesk support gyrl...so my experience with Network set-ups is limited and this is my first experience with setting up a wireless one...but this product made it SO SO simple I was up and running in under 5 minutes also I bought my unit from BESTBUY and received a free USB Wireless network adapter...came in handy when I tried to connect my gyrlfriends old style Compaq tablet pc to the wireless router...it was one of the best deals for the money in my opinion

Summary:I bought this router to replace a Dell 802.11g router that I\'ve had for the past 3 years. The Dell was very hard to configure and I was not able to add WEP security. I was very happy to breeze through the setup with the Belkin router. I wasn\'t able to use the auto setup feature, but the included directions were simple.

Summary:I am very impressed with this router. I bought it because of its low price and had low expectations... but the router well exceeded them! This was the easiest install I\'ve ever dealt with when it comes to wireless routers. A CD took me through the whole process in about 5 minutes. I am now up and running and extremely pleased!

Summary:I needed the most basic and least expensive router, so I chose this one in Wal-Mart. I have a WildBlue satellite internet, and apparently the modem is configured in such manner that no router setup is required. I didn\'t know that and when I ran Belkin setup wizard from the CD it skipped from the first step (identifying network) to the last step (wireless setup). It was very confusing so I ditched the wizard, and tried to setup it manually via the web interface -- but as soon I connected everything was up and running -- no reconfiguration required.

Summary:This was the first of three wireless routers I installed at my daughter\'s apartment in the last 24 hours. The Belkin Wireless G router, wouldn\'t properly initialize after being connected to the cable modem. Various reboots of both cable modem and router didn\'t help. I called Belkin\'s 24/7 tech support number and waited on hold for 30 minutes waiting for an answer, but no one answered. There was no indication of how long it would be before someone got around to my call, so I gave up. A total of two hours wasted.

To finish the story, I exchanged the Belkin for a D-Link DI-524. Some reviews on this website suggested I might have problems with disconnects, but a store clerk assured me this was a more reliable product than the Belkin. What\'s more, the D-Link was less expensive after rebate. Unfortunately, it was also difficult to initialize. I could easily get an Internet connection going between PC and cable modem, as with the Belkin, but for some reason the D-Link router wouldn\'t establish a connection to the cable modem. I restarted the installation sequence, and performed various reboots of cable and router. Suddenly the units linked up and I thought I\'d solved the problem. I maintained a connection long enough to browse the Internet for a few minutes, then I quickly secured the router (turned off broadcast SSID, turned on MAC filters, changed admin passwords, etc.) Another two hours passed, but at least I thought I was done.

The next morning, my daughter gently let me know the D-Link router didn\'t stay connected. I visited her apartment and tested it out. Seems I was facing another sequence of rebooting cable modem and router again to keep the Internet connection operating. In other words, I thought I could beat the odds and avoid problems I had read on this website. I was not so lucky. Back to the store it went.

This time I purchased a Linksys Wireless G router. It installed like a dream. The unit initialized immediately. I logged in, made the necessary security enhancements, and was finished in perhaps 15 minutes. It may have been less time than that. I\'ve set up wireless networks before. This is the experience I was looking for.

Linksys is my brand from now on. No more overlooking poor customer service (Belkin!), and no more overlooking spotty reviews (D-Link!) on sites like this hoping to beat the odds.

Summary:This Belkin was one of the cheapest routers I could find at Best Buy. The setup is easy (but most routers these days are). I used the manual setup through a browser instead of the easy-setup CD, and I got it working literally in a couple of minutes. I then reconfigured the wireless and networking parameters so I could use it as a wifi access point instead of a router (because I already have a DSL router). This was also very painless because the setup interface offers you a one-click option to reconfigure the unit as an access point (which turns off the dhcp and firewall). This is a cheap alternative to purchasing a real wireless access point (which is invariably 2 or 3 times more expensive but is basically the same thing).

Now, the most problematic thing about this unit is that it periodically drops the wifi signal completely (I mean down to zero!). Most users would not have noticed this, because the signal goes out for about 1 or 2 seconds and it comes back. If you are on your browser or are downloading a file, you would think that the net is just slow. But to diagnose the problem, I had to ping the router from a computer that was connected wirelessly and found that the pings intermittently returned a number of lost packets. When I examined the wireless signal during these periods of outage, I discovered that the signal strength was completely zero. I know what you would say: \"Perhaps you are just too far away from the router, that\'s why the signal goes away.\" Well, my computer was just 6 inches away! And this happened with not just one but both of my laptops with very different wireless adaptors.

After a few days, I had to return the Belkin and exchange it for a D-Link which was on sale for the same cost as the Belkin (I have another D-Link which has been working flawlessly for a few months). Even though the D-Link unit does not offer an option to easily convert it into an access point, I was able to reconfigure it to do just that in a couple of minutes, and the D-Link is working fine and doesn\'t drop packets at all (as long as you are within range).

Since I had only tested the Belkin\'s wifi capabilities but not its router functions, I can\'t comment on how it would work as a router. But since the wifi is problematic, I would recommend against it (unless you intend to not use the wireless functions, but why would you want a wifi router then?)

Strengths:It works how we need it to work.

Weaknesses:Customer Service was horrible. Hard to understand what was being said, and was on hold quiet a bit.

Summary:We bought the router, sent in the rebate and had the payment stopped on Belkin\'s rebate check TWICE. Belkin is not a trustworthy company. Go somewhere else.

Summary:I\'ve been installing and using these routers for over 2 years. They work great once set up correctly. Beware of a lockout bug with earlier versions. If you encounter this, the unit will need to be replaced. Fortunately, Belkin replaced mine without hassle. The biggest issue I have with the unit is that web configuration STILL doesn\'t work with Safari. Use Explorer, Opera, etc.

The latest model, hardware version 4.00.01 with firmware version 6.00.10 appears to have dropped support for wireless bridging (WDS) mode.
