Summary:I really had to reach to come up with any cons to this product. I have used gigabit switches that you literally could cook an egg on, so I very much appreciate that this one runs so cool (it\'s even labelled as \"green\" on the box, which is mostly marketing but it does use less power than other switches).

That said it is dirt cheap (so is its eight-port brother which is otherwise identical in specs), it is gigabit (which also means all of its ports are auto-sensing), and it supports jumbo frames--a feature that many more expensive gigabit switches lack.

Who cares if the casing feels too plasticky or if it fails after a couple years. For the price it cannot be beat.

Summary:I have used Dlink products before and this one is no exception it terms of quality and functionality. The switch has 5 ports, which automatically detect the cable connected to it. I used it to connect multiple computers and have them share the internet as well. I have seen considerable improvements over transfer speeds between computers.

Unlike few other switches that I have used, this one runs much cooler. The gigabit support is a plus. Since all my computers do not have gigabit support, it is a nice hardware since it identifies the ones that have, which results in faster communication. It is not very expensive and is affordable for home/small office use.

Summary:A very reasonably priced gigabit switch with 5 ports -- we use over a dozen of these in our office without any difficulties. Unlike various Netgear units we\'ve had, none of these have failed or had bad ports.

Gigabit support seems good, though I\'ve never bothered (or needed) to run any throughput tests.

And for being called Green Ethernet, I\'m not really sure how many power savings there can be from a little switch like this...though nonetheless it\'s always positive to hear companies taking this under consideration when designing products.

Summary:I bought this gigabit Ethernet switch to replace one from another manufacturer which had trouble dealing with mixed 100 Mb and 1000 Mb connections. I\'ve found this switch handles mixed environment well. It also seems to run cooler compared to other switches I\'ve used. For the price I think its a very good product.

Summary:I bought this switch to create a segment for my two desktop machines between which i do a lot of file transfers. The switch was very easy to setup, worked right out of the box. It has dual color LEDs to indicate 100M/1Gigabit connections. Now I do not load my router when only these two desktops have to communicate. Both desktops have Gigabit LAN and the switch identifies them correctly. I noticed some performance improvement in file transfer speeds and remove login than when I was only using the router. A slight issue that I noticed was that when I view the switch front panel from an angle, it is difficult to judge which lights are yellow and which are green. Its a design flaw but does not affect functionality.

Summary:This product is easy to install. Just plug and play then it works. It runs flawlessly 24 hours a day and 7 days a week from day one and there is no any issue. I am pretty happy about this. However, the speed is not quite gigabit. It can reach over 100M but far away from 100M.

Strengths:Real plug and play\"Green\" unit

Weaknesses:The 100M/1000M indicator light is not very clear (the yellow 100M looks almost the same as the green 1000M light)

Summary:This unit has been in my home network for several month, and it serves the its purpose well. I have four gigabyte capable PC on the network, they did see some performance improvement after installed this unit. I will try to replace all the cables to CAT6, and check the performance again.

Summary:This is my first switch, but I\'m sure many other people have seen their home (or office) networks grow to the point of needing additional wired connections. I can\'t say it works better than any other, but it works flawlessly for me, and the manufacturer claims that it uses power smartly. On the downside, it needs to be plugged into an electrical outlet as well; apparently, it can\'t draw power right from the ethernet line.

Summary:What is there to say about a gigabit ethernet switch, for a non-power user?! It just works! :-) In my office, I only have one ethernet connection to the router which is in a closet downstairs. I have a main computer, a Windows Home Server, a Maxtor NAS, an HP network printer and an occasional computer I am working on. The downside is that while it says 5-ports, you lose one port to make the connection to your router (or another switch). I like that the power-supply is a small adapter, which fits easily in a power-strip, without taking more than one plug socket. Having the power external, helps to keep the heat down. The device is fanless, but does get a bit hot as the metal case is dissipating heat. The other nice thing is that the status lights are on the front, and the cable connections are on the back. This allows you to easily tell if the connection is gigabit or fast ethernet, w/out having the jumble of cables in the way. I also have a Netgear GS105, and it has this problem. Very happy!

Summary:I have been using this switch for 2 weeks now and so far my experience has been nothing but great. This switch is very easy to install and use. I just plugged it in my local home network and it worked beautifully, without any efforts or installation. I have never experienced any kind of lacking and/or restarting so far. Moreover, it is compact in size, making it ideal for desktops with limited space. It also includes a wall mount kit which should come in handy should you want to install it on a wall or underneath a desk. Finally, easy-to read LEDs display status and activity, and the cable diagnostics feature checks the condition of the Ethernet cables which really help add to my total satisfaction to this product.

Summary:This is an excellent switch fitting all my needs. It is very stable. Transfer speed is fast and it is cool when it is running 24x7. It never gets the speed over 200Mbps though the theoretical gigabit speed should be 1000Mbps, but this is typical for every gigabit switch in the market so far. The only drawback is that its size is larger than some compact switch like Linksys one.

Weaknesses:hard to hit the 1 mbit in transfer

Summary:I connected this to my NAS and it worked fine however, when I tried to connect a another computer to the switch I kept on gettig ip issues, so what happened what that I had to replug in the computer to the router, so it didn\'t give me the full 1000 mbit transfer. I would recomend but u mist know hat u are doing. Remember that a swtich does not assign ips, so u need a computer to be a decated host or just have a router of some sort

Summary:I bought this gigabit switch due to its low price. The quality is very good. It runs cool and efficiently in my mixed network. Though the jumbo frame speed can not reach the optimal speed. The highest I can get is just 150Mbps, far below 1000Mbps.

Strengths:Small footprint, runs cool, massive throughput, no blocking encountered!

Weaknesses:Basic 5 port switch so remember you lose a port if one is needed for uplink purposes!

Summary:Been using the 5 port switch in combination with the DGS-2208 8 port switch for a few weeks now and they perform flawlessly. My PowerMac G5 has Gigabit Ethernet built in and my server in the basement also has Gigabit capability. Moving large files now is a snap and watching video off the server is a true pleasure. Can\'t really think of much negative to say about it other than I should have purchased two 8 port switches rather than one 5 and one 8. I\'ve had no hiccups and can highly recommend these switches to anyone looking to get Gigabit switching in their SOHO network.
