When I needed a wireless web cam for a security monitor I thought... why not?  I admit I wanted to start cheap so I went for it.  I\'ve had this device for three months now and I have yet to get it to work wirelessly.  Although I can configure the wireless section (using a wired connection) when it reboots it will never get a connection.  This is with/without SSID broadcast.<br /><br />Do yourself a favor (I wish I did)... purchase something else.  In fact, purchase ANYTHING else. After I finally got them working had a couple of questions.  Called Tech support, useless. Support is in india, and seem to have canned answers.  Was told to send message to their R&D department.  Did and 2 weeks later had not received reply.  You cannot call the R&D dept. so I called the customer service line.  Was told I should receive an answer, but could not tell me when.  I ask how long I should wait?  They could not say.  It has been 3 months and I have still not heard anything.  Called customer service back, had to leave a message and have not gotten a call back from there either. Anyway, I\'m a techie - I support LANs, WANs, Oracle DBs, FlexLM license servers, PC\'s, Unix/Linux systems, etc. - I just want you to know I know what I\'m talking about and not a novice.<br /><br />BROADCAST - Three things you should do to keep your wireless network secure: (1) Use an encryption key, (2) restrict access by MAC address, and (3) do NOT broadcast your SSID.  Well, if you don\'t broadcast your SSID, the HNC290g cannot connect to the network. There is a config window in the Windows Admin app that lets you specifically state the network to which it should connect and it does ... until you reset the router to not broadcast the SSID. Then, it\'s toast.<br /><br />SETUP - The initial setup wizard from the CD is great. Very easy.<br /><br />WIRED - If you run a wired connection to this camera, the connectivity and response is much better than wireless. It\'s also stable/consistent.<br /><br />WIRELESS - If you run this wireless, the Admin utility will report back settings that may not be what the system is set at. For instance, I set the time/date setup to Eastern time, to use DST, and to use a NorthAm NTP server. After the reset, it appears as if I made no changes. But, if I connect the unit to the ntwk via a cable and reconnect to the Admin page, the settings are exactly as I had set them.<br /><br />TIME/DATE - The Web View of the camera (<a href=http://192.168.1.xxx/video.htm>192.168.1.xxx/video.ht...</a>) reports the time as if DST is not on, but the Viewer application overlays the time/date with the proper time. So freakin\' odd.<br /><br />SOFTWARE - The software is the worst. It starts up and soon you get a \"util.exe has encountered an error and must be closed\". If you click \"Send\" or \"Don\'t Send\" in the error window, the application closes. BUT, if you leave the error window up, the application works fine - for what \"fine\" is.<br /><br />The software is lacking in anything robust. I wanted something that could take a snap every 20 seconds from midnight to 7am. No way, no how. I had to download CamUniversal and tested that. I could only connect to the camera with CamUniversal by using the loginfree snapshot page of the camera, but to buy CamUniversal is another $50.<br /><br />SENT IT BACK - My vendor was willing to take it back without charging me a restocking fee. Do yourself a favor - look elsewhere for a better solution or buy this one when Hawking Tech gets its act together on this system.<br /><br />I LOVE HAWKING TECH PRODUCTS - But this one just really was bad news.
