This router is replacing a previously decent Linksys model WRT310N, which I will give to someone needing a more casual network that is at least reliable. My previous LinkSys WRT350N dropped the connection at least two times per day. The 610N has yet to drop the connection. Speed is excellent, but I simultaneously installed a Motorola SURFboard SB6120 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem and a LinkSys WEC600N Dual-Band Wireless-N Express Card, so I do not know which products produce the bulk of the increased speed. I had expected to connect at 5 GHz and 2.4 GHZ simultaneously, but the 610N does not do this. My old 350N was an unattractive rectangular box with two antennas sticking up that I hid behind cabinet doors. The 610N is a very good looking unit that I place unobtrusively on a shelf in my living room. Despite my love for Cisco products, I have found their wireless products less than stellar. This 610N may reconfirm my love for Cisco. Netgear is promising a Rangemax Dual Bank Wireless-N Gigabit Router - Premium Edition WNDR3700 that I would have considered, but its ETA is indefinite. I have literally thrown DLink products in the trash, as I would not even give them away to some unsuspecting novice. My LinkSys WRT610N and WEC600N and their Vista drivers work well with Windows 7 Build 7100.

Reviewed by: LinksBroke on 03-Jan-09 Rating:

Strengths:wired

Weaknesses:wireless

Summary:All I get is disconnected, its like all my wireless connects get dropped all at wonce and when I called LINKSYS support all the could say was \"Lets reset the router and start from scratch\". I bought this wireless router based on \"expert\" reviews in magazines and on the web but am very disappointed. The router works but I am planning to return it for an exchange. Xbox wireless can only attain moderate connection causing game drop. Xbox media connection to 5ghz is poor signal strength. Tivo wireless signal went from ~50-60 signal with WRT54GX4 SRX400 to 7% poor with the WRT610N. Wireless laptop internet connection / through put slower. iPod touch wi-fi range and connection is poor. Cat 6 wired computer file transfer going from 100MB to this 1GB router with Linksys 1Gb NIC EG1032 v3 is only about 45% faster therefore not justifying the expense / cost of this router. Flat profile takes ~4-5 times more desktop space than a stand up router. Maybe there is future growth built into this router but it is not apparent or useful to me today.
