The unit was so simple to set up, as it should be (just plug it in and go) and I was moving huge batches of digital photos between systems with ease and speed. After insert this switch, PC shows connection to switch, but not intranet or internet. I had to set all PC back to auto for TCP/IP to get it work. Now everything is fine: 1 on 1 gigabyte, 2 on 100M byte. Plan to buy gigabyte NIC for other two. So far no test for speed because only one has 1 Gbps connection. Will compare later. It is actually a much smaller form factor, about 4x4\" (see picture), which means that it is NOT stackable with other traditional 2Linksys equipment.  If that is important to you, beware.<br />2- There is NO feedback on the actual connection speed.  So you don\'t know from the hub whether you connection speed is 10, 100 or 1GHz.  Very annoying, especially if your computers are a little ways away.<br /><br />Another thing to remember is that replacing your 100MHz hub by a 1GHz hub will NOT multiply your network throughput by a factor 10. Other factors come into play, such as, but not limited to, your OS.  In my case, I got a speedup of a factor 2 when one of the computers involved in the transfer is WindowsXP-based and a speedup of 7 with both computers running Linux... I have this connected to a NetGear GA311 NIC (Gigabit), a Marvel imbedded NIC (Gigabit), an old Orinoco AP1000 (10Mbps) and an old Linksys BEFSR41 router (100Mbps). Works perfertly. It stacks on top of the BEFSR41 and will also stack with other Linksys routers and wireless access points.
