I have waited for many years for this type of recorder to become a reality. I have used many high dollar recorders over the years, but always wanted a small device that I could capture noises that would be easy to load into a computer for analysis, or at least send a copy of the sound to someone else. Now I own one! <br />The frequency spectrum for this recorder per the manual is 60 to 13.5kHz in the standard play stereo mode. There are a number of different record rates. My use will always be at the best frequency bandwidth. As you set the recorder to record more time, the high frequency starts to degrade from the recording. It would be nice if it had gone to something above 20kHz, but due to its sample rate, 13.5kHz is it. Don’t get me wrong here. It would be nice to have the full 20kHz, but the 13.5kHz is still sweet for the price range of this unit and its size.<br />I found the recorder to be very intuitive to operate. In fact I started using it before reading the manual. <br />I have not used the Dragon Naturally Speaking software yet. This is mainly due to having to train the software for your personal voice by reading 15 minutes of text. I just haven’t had the time to do it.<br />The manual talks about this recorder having some type of copyright protection without telling what this really means.  I am guessing, but think they may have encoded some type of ID in the sound files that can be traced.  So, if you take it to a concert of your favorite rock band and try to sell bootleg CD’s from your recording, they can trace it back to you.  How you may ask?  Well, did you register your new recorder with Sony?  I did.  It asked for my address and serial number of the recorder.
